Best Grilling Pellets Practices for a Great Spring and Summer

Are you ready to get your pellet grill out for a great summer? Have you spent all winter looking forward to being able to grill again to your heart’s content? We hear you. So many in wintry climes have been thinking the same thing. It is perfectly understandable too, on the first genuinely nice day of the year, get your pellet grill out and start cooking pronto. That said, there are some steps to take to make sure you get the most out of your pellet grill, particularly if it’s been a while since you grilled. Of course, you’re going to want the best grilling pellets, too.

Before You Start: Update

Depending on your make and model of pellet grill, it’s entirely possible that there have been updates since last winter. If so, be sure to update those before you actually get to cooking. Just as you would prepare days in advance for a big holiday grilling session, download these updates as soon as you can. After all, you don’t want to wait (or worse) on the perfect grilling opportunity because the updates are taking their time. Get them done ahead of time and you’ll be in a better position for success.

Take it Apart and Put it Back Together

Even if you’ve done the best, most conscientious job of storing your pellet grill over the winter, it’s entirely possible that it’s still going to need to be cleaned. Keeping it in a storage facility, garage, shed, or something else can keep it safe, but before you eat something that you put in there, odds are you’re going to want to clean it as thoroughly as possible. So, when in doubt, take your grill as much apart as you feel comfortable doing, clean it, and put it back together. If you start to get a little antsy about taking it apart, that’s OK, just do what you feel like you can handle.

Clean Moving Forward

Of course, the cleaning process doesn’t stop just because you’ve disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled your grill. You want to have a grill that’s perfect for grilling all spring, summer, and fall long (if not longer). So, we strongly recommend that you do at least some cleaning after every cook. That way, you’re protecting your grill as well as anyone who eats your food, too.
