How to Use Almond Wood Pellets to Cook a Thanksgiving Turkey?

Barbecue Pellet

Are you cooking for Thanksgiving this year? Do you want to provide your guests with a cooked turkey unlike any they’ve had before? If so, a great way to do that is to cook your turkey on a pellet grill. That way, you can add a delicious smoked flavor to the turkey that everyone will love. For even more flavor, we strongly recommend that you use our almond wood pellets. There are some tips to keep in mind for the best Thanksgiving turkey pellet grill experience.

Best Time to Start Cooking: Before Thanksgiving

This time of year, everyone is so busy. The night before Thanksgiving is one of the busiest party nights of the year. That said, for the best results, maybe consider starting the cooking prep before that Thursday in November. How so? By making sure that your pellet grill is as clean as possible. (That means grates too.) You’re going to want to have plenty of pellets, too, especially if the weather is cold. “A few too many pellets” certainly beats “too few.”

Follow the Laws of Thaw

Should you go with a frozen turkey this year, you’re going to want to thaw it out in the fridge for a while, between three to four days before you begin cooking. Unsure how long to do so? A good rule of thumb: see how much it weighs, then thaw it in your fridge an extra day for every four pounds. Once you’re done with all that, it isn’t ready to cook yet. Rest it at room temperature for an hour or two before you begin seasoning it.

Injection or Brining

We know that there are some folks who swear by using brine and injecting their turkey. They want as much flavor as possible in their turkey, which is understandable. However, we recommend only doing one or the other; only bringing or only injecting. Why? Because you don’t want the turkey to be overpowered by too many flavors. Picking one or the other will make sure that you have a delicious turkey everyone will enjoy.
